Prescott Western Heritage Foundation presents “Prescott’s Doc HolliDaze Weekend” on

Prescott, Arizona. Tickets for the full weekend of events are $95, available by going

The weekend is a celebration of John Henry “Doc” Holliday’s time in Prescott prior to his

fateful move to Tombstone. In 2024, Whiskey Row Historian Bradley G. Courtney and

researcher D. Sue Kissell learned the exact location of the house where John Henry

“Doc” Holliday lived during his time in Prescott. It was located off Montezuma Street in

what is now the parking lot between Bashford Courts and Yavapai Title. A fundraising

effort was launched to create a bronze plaque commemorating the location, and the

plaque was placed by the City of Prescott in their easement. A wildly successful

unveiling event followed, and the committee elected to continue to celebrate Doc

Holliday’s Prescott tenure with an annual event on the weekend closest to Doc’s

birthday of August 14th.

The weekend will begin with a Welcome Reception at the Western Heritage Center on

Friday evening, August 15th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, followed by a Speakeasy Crawl.

One special “Doc HolliDaze” drink ticket is included.

A History Forum is planned for Saturday morning, featuring expert Doc Holliday

historians, authors and artists. The Wild West History Association will also have

representatives in attendance.

Scheduled speakers for the History Forum include Bob Boze Bell, executive editor of

True West magazine. Also known as BBB, Bob Boze Bell is a historian, author and

painter who is known as America’s Western Storyteller. Michael Paul Mihaljevich is an

author, historical researcher and art photographer. He recently published the book The

Bird Cage Theater: The Curtain Rises on Tombstone. Victoria Wilcox is Founding

Director of Georgia’s Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House Museum, the antebellum home of the

family of Doc Holliday. Her work with the museum led to two decades of original

research, making her a nationally recognized authority on the life of Doc Holliday.

The History Forum will take place from 9:00 to 12:00 on Saturday, August 16th , in the

Marina Room at the Hassayampa Inn, and a light breakfast is included. The History

Forum is included with the full weekend pass, but if guests want to attend only the

Forum, that price is $20.

Later that afternoon at 1:30 PM will be a “Behind the Scenes” tour of Sharlot Hall

Museum, provided by Executive Director Stuart Rosebrook. Museum admission is

included; show your weekend pass ticket at the gate for entrance.

A highlight of the weekend will be the Grand Victorian Party held at the Hassayampa

Inn on Saturday evening, August 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with Old West entertainers

and country music by Lonesome and Busted. 1880’s attire is encouraged, but not

required. Wear your finest period or Western outfit to participate. An additional raffle

ticket will be provided to all those who come in 1880’s attire! Enjoy refreshments and a

no-host bar, Old West games and a photo booth with a Western backdrop.

Do you think you look like John Henry Holliday? A Doc Holliday lookalike contest will be judged by

“Doc” impersonator Cory Allen from Tombstone. There will also be a “Big Nose Kate”

lookalike contest for the ladies. Meet dozens of re-enactors from groups such as the

Prescott Regulators and Their Shady Ladies, the Whiskey Row Renegades, the

Whiskey Row Social Club and Historical Society, Arizona Frontier Legends and many

others.

A commemorative booklet, “Doc Holliday in Prescott”, written by Bradley Courtney, will

be available at the event, as will books and artwork by the History Forum presenters.

Stuart Rosebrook, executive director of Sharlot Hall Museum, will emcee the Grand

Victorian Party.

The weekend will conclude with a no-host brunch on Sunday morning at 10:00 AM at

the Hassayampa Inn’s 1927 Salon, with attendees ordering from the menu.

The host hotel is the Hassayampa Inn, 800-322-1927. Mention Prescott's Doc HolliDaze

weekend for special pricing on room rates. The Hotel St. Michael is also a historic

lodging option within walking distance of all events.

The raffle prize is "Doc at OK Corral" a framed print signed by the artist Buck Taylor.

One raffle ticket is included with the weekend pass, and additional raffle tickets are

available for $5 each. The raffle drawing will take place Saturday evening during the

Grand Victorian Party.

All proceeds benefit the Prescott Western Heritage Foundation. “The intention is for

Prescott’s Doc HolliDaze to become an annual event celebrating local and Old West

History,” said Dennis Gallagher, founder of the Prescott Western Heritage Foundation.
