  • Vermillion Homes: Building Northern Arizona’s Legacy of Quality and Integrity

Vermillion Homes Video by Donna Werking, Northern AZ Social, LLC Prescott, Arizona - Vermillion Homes, Northern Arizona’s premier custom home builder, is proud to continue setting the standard for excellence, transparency, and craftsmanship in residential construction. Founded and led by Tim Vermillion, a seasoned homebuilding professional with more than three decades of industry experience, the company is leaving a lasting imprint across Yavapai County with homes built to stand the test of time.   Tim and his wife relocated from North Phoenix to Prescott, Arizona, in July 2022, drawn by the area’s natural beauty and tight-knit community. “We instantly fell in love with the Prescott lifestyle,” Tim shared. “We enjoy the outdoors—camping, off-roading, and exploring Northern Arizona’s backcountry. It’s the perfect place for us to call home.”   Tim’s impressive homebuilding career began in the field as a framer in 1985 after ten years joined up with Pulte Homes and Del Webb, where he served from 1995 to 2009 as Director of Product Design. During that time, he helped lead some of the nation’s largest and most respected housing developments. This role gave him extensive experience in every facet of residential design and construction, from architecture and structural engineering to customer satisfaction and project management.   “In my years with Pulte and Del Webb, I learned how to balance design innovation with cost efficiency,” Tim said. “That experience became the foundation for Vermillion Homes — creating custom homes that are as functional as they are beautiful.” Since 2010, Tim has been an active Arizona homebuilder, completing a diverse portfolio of custom homes that showcase thoughtful design, meticulous craftsmanship, and an unwavering dedication to quality.   What truly sets Vermillion Homes apart is its commitment to value engineering and full transparency throughout every project. This approach ensures clients receive the highest quality construction while optimizing design and material costs to deliver the best overall value.   “At Vermillion Homes, we believe in complete transparency,” Tim emphasized. “Homebuilding should be an exciting, collaborative experience. Our clients know exactly where every dollar goes, and we work closely with them to find smart solutions that save money without sacrificing quality or design.”   The company’s team provides hands-on attention at every stage — from lot selection and design to material choice and final walk-through. “Our clients become part of the Vermillion family,” Tim said. “We take great pride in earning their trust and exceeding their expectations.” Now fully rooted in Prescott, Vermillion Homes continues to expand its footprint throughout Northern Arizona, building custom residences that reflect the character and beauty of the region. Each project represents not just a home, but a legacy of craftsmanship and care that will be enjoyed for generations. “We’re very excited to leave our legacy in Yavapai County for years to come,” Tim expressed. “Prescott has welcomed us with open arms, and it’s an honor to build homes that contribute to this incredible community.”   He added, “Our goal is simple — to create homes that blend timeless design, energy efficiency, and enduring value. When our homeowners walk through the door of their finished home, we want them to feel an overwhelming sense of pride and peace of mind.”   As Northern Arizona continues to grow, Vermillion Homes remains committed to supporting the region’s architectural heritage, environmental responsibility, and small-town values. “We’re not just building houses,” Tim said. “We’re building the future of this community — one home at a time.”   For more information about Vermillion Homes or to explore their custom homebuilding services, visit www.vermillionhomes.com

  • Meet Liz Tobin: The Heart Behind Catering by Liz

For more than 24 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Tobin, owner and operator of Catering by Liz, has been creating memorable dining experiences for events and private parties throughout Yavapai County. Known for her attention to detail, impeccable presentation, and passion for her craft, Liz has become one of Prescott’s most respected caterers — combining culinary expertise with genuine hospitality.   Liz’s journey to Prescott began in 1992 when she moved from New York to be closer to her parents, who had relocated to Arizona two decades earlier. “I instantly fell in love with Prescott while visiting them,” Liz recalls. “The small-town charm and community spirit captured my heart, and I knew this was where I wanted to be.”   Her love for cooking started early, inspired by her mother and grandmother, both excellent cooks. As a young mom in New York, Liz often found herself catering for neighbors and friends — a talent that would eventually evolve into her lifelong profession.   Though she once planned to attend culinary school, fate had other plans. Liz began working under Chef Patrick Day, who offered her a rare opportunity: “He told me that if I worked side by side with him, I’d learn everything I would in culinary school,” Liz said. That mentorship led her to become his sous chef — a role that deepened her knowledge and appreciation for fine cuisine.   Over the years, Liz has worked in some of Prescott’s most iconic establishments, including The Palace Restaurant when it first reopened as a restaurant in 1996, and later as a sous chef at Zuma’s, a sister establishment. She also managed the deli and kitchen at New Frontiers Natural Grocers for 12 years, where she gained valuable experience in special dietary needs — including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and ADA-friendly meal preparation.   While balancing her early catering business, Liz owned and operated a small café in Chino Valley called The Lunch Box, which became a local favorite for fresh, homemade meals. Her experience at New Frontiers further refined her passion for using healthier and organic ingredients — a cornerstone of her modern cooking style.   “What sets me apart is my attention to detail and presentation,” Liz explains. “Every event is unique, and I take pride in delivering exactly what my clients envision.” Her specialties include elegant cocktail parties featuring high-end hors d’oeuvres, though she also offers full-service catering for weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations of all sizes. Her culinary talents have even reached national audiences. Liz was selected to provide meals for a Food Network show, Restaurant: Impossible with celebrity chef Robert Irvine, while they filmed in Prescott. She has also catered for multiple production companies from Los Angeles working on location in Yavapai County.   Liz’s dedication to community service is as strong as her passion for cooking. She regularly supports Empty Bowls Prescott and donates meals to the Prescott Women’s Shelter, continuing her tradition of giving back through food. “Liz is an absolute joy to work with. Her professionalism, creativity, and food quality are unmatched. Every event she caters feels seamless and special because she genuinely cares about the experience from start to finish.” - Kate Allen, Pronghorn Ranch Events Manager Outside of the kitchen, Liz enjoys Prescott’s outdoor beauty — especially hiking — and treasures every opportunity to visit the beach, her favorite place to unwind. With four grown children, five grandchildren, five brothers, one sister, and a large extended family in both Arizona and New York, Liz’s life is filled with love and connection — values that shine through in every event she caters.   “It makes me happy to serve others with delicious food,” she says. “That’s what Catering by Liz is all about — where tasteful creations begin.”   Liz welcomes calls from event planners and day-of coordinators to ensure every detail is perfectly aligned before an event. She also maintains strong relationships with fellow local caterers whom she respects and is always willing to recommend when appropriate. Learn more about Catering by Liz at www.cateringbyliz.org .
